The Village Method (https://thevillagemethod.org) is a community-based grassroots organization with a mission dedicated to making youth unstoppable. Our goal is to operate as a conduit building capacity for social change and the advancement of Black youth, families, and community-based organizations working together to develop sustainable academic and cultural pipelines from elementary to college, from college to career, and back to their community. We do this by partnering with school districts, providing culturally responsive Youth Development, Family Engagement, and Community Outreach programming in the SF Bay Area.
POSITION SUMMARY
This person in this role must be able to create a positive joyful educational climate where students can learn and grow exploring academic and African-centered topics. They will be responsible for preparing and implementing several weekly developmentally appropriate classes based on their personal passions and skills.
Work Location: On-site at one site. You need to have reliable transportation to get you to one of the following sites on various days: Fairview Elementary, Lorin Eden Elementary, Schafer Park Elementary, Park Elementary, and Southgate Elementary
- Develop lesson plans and activities that incorporate organizational African-centered philosophy and overall program vision; extend learning from kids’ school days.
- Supervise children, including planning, preparation and implementation of developmental programming for children in kindergarten through fifth grade.
- Create instructional resources and curriculum that reflect the educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
- Ability to support other staff’s lesson planning, act as point person for collaboration around lesson planning.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Schedule:
- Mondays 2:30 - 5:30pm Hayward
- Tuesdays 2:30 - 5:30pm Hayward
- Wednesdays 12:30 - 4:00pm Hayward
- Thursdays 2:30 - 5:30pm Hayward
- Fridays 10:00-2:00pm Oakland
Compensation: $40-50/hr
REQUIREMENTS

- 5+ years of K-8th teaching experience or equivalent experience
- Must have experience working with children
- Be able to plan appropriate activities for different age groups
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Strong classroom management and behavior management skills.
- Ability to lead a classroom of children.
- Ability to push/pull and lift/carry objects weighing 50 pounds.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to sit on floors and chairs, and to get up and down quickly.
- Ability to bend from knees and waist to help a child.
- Clearance of TB test
- CPR Preferred
- Teacher certification preferred
- Background (fingerprint) check
- High level of cultural competency
- Reliable transportation
