Description

The Program Assistant internship opportunity provides direct supervision for a group of children at the school site. Provides a quality experience for children and parents focused on TVM mission of building a sustainable academic pipeline for African American youth in Union City, CA. This is an opportunity to work directly with middle school students and have immediate impact on their academic journey. You will be in a classroom setting with approximately 30 children and 3 - 5 other volunteers (including the Program Manager).

We are seeking a Program Assistant to provide structured academic support and guidance to our students throughout the school year. The primary role is to help ensure that students meet or exceed grade level standards and expectations within a given subject area. Must be able to motivate and maintain the interest of the students while setting a positive example in all areas, including timeliness, attendance, and professionalism. Additionally, must take a sincere, active, and appropriate interest in the well-being of all students.

Responsibilities

A commitment to the mission and programs of TVM Strong communication skills, both oral and written Ability to create basic lesson plans (Program Mgr. will assist) Must be available to work after school hours (e.g., 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.)

Requirements

  • Work one-on-one and in small groups with students to provide them with academic intervention
  • Operate as a program coach/counselor to youth and foster a fun and engaging environment for learning
  • Partner with Program Manager to develop and implement instructional strategies
  • Manage Volunteers at site and provide guidance for the day
  • Communicate with Program Manager after each day
  • Document all sessions in the system detailing student interactions, achievements, and any potential concerns
  • Periodically administer assessments and collaborate with staff to analyze scores
  • Perform other duties as assigned
